Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish in the Official Report the Registrar General for Scotland's population estimates for each local authority in Scotland as at June in each year from 1975 to 1980, together with the estimates used in grant distributions from 1975–76 to 1981–82, if the latter are different.

The estimates of the population prepared by the Registrar General for Scotland for the years 1975 to 1980 were the estimates used in grant distributions from 1975–76 to 1981–82, as specified in the relevant Rate Support Grant (Scotland) orders. Because of the number of size of the tables I shall send a set to the hon. Member and place a copy in the Library.
