HC Deb 18 June 1981 vol 6 c424W
Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will calculate the proportion of earnings which lie above the upper earnings limit for contributions to the national insurance scheme.

Mrs. Chalker

Between 4 and 4½ per cent. of employees' earnings are in excess of the upper earnings limit for contributions to the national insurance scheme.

Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the increase in revenue if the ceiling on national insurance contributions were abolished.

Mrs. Chalker

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East (Mrs. Short) on 28 April 1981.—[Vol. 3, c.378.]
