HC Deb 18 June 1981 vol 6 c401W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date he received a letter posted on 3 March to him from a constituent of the Caernarvon constituency, Miss Anne C. Uruska, of Trefor, Gwynedd; on what date he replied; and what is his policy towards the issuing of Welsh language or bilingual documentation by police forces in Wales.

Mr. Mayhew

The letter from Miss Uruska was received on 27 March, after translation from Welsh to English. As it involved policy on bilingual forms it was passed to the Welsh Office for reply, with its agreement, and I understand that a reply was dispatched on 16 June. Police forces in Wales are encouraged to have forms available in both Welsh and English, where the demand justifies it.
