Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much per head of population is spent by the Government on housing in Scotland, Wales and England, respectively.

Mr. Stanley

In the year ended 31 March 1980, Government expenditure on housing in England averaged £54.85 per head of population.

For equivalent figures for Scotland and Wales I refer the hon. Gentleman to my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and for Wales.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much he intends to spend on housing per head of population in England for the years 1981–82, 1982–83 and 1983–84.

Government expenditure on housing in England in 1981–82 is estimated to be £51.4 per head of population. The relative shares of Government and other housing public expenditure for the years 1982–83 and 1983–84 have yet to be determined.
