HC Deb 18 June 1981 vol 6 c409W
Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will state (a) the maximum simultaneous demand for 1980–81 within (i) the area of the Central Electricity Generating Board, (b) the date and time at which it occurred and (c) the installed generating capacity at that date.

Mr. Norman Lamont

I am advised by the CEGB that last winter's maximum demand on the CEGB system in England and Wales occurred at 17.30 hours on Tuesday 13 January 1981. The actual demand met was 42,600 MW corresponding to a demand of 43,000 MW in average cold spell weather conditions. The total declared net capability of the board's generating plant on 13 January was 56,581 MW s.o.; of which 51,081 MW was actually usable at the time of peak demand.
