HC Deb 18 June 1981 vol 6 cc406-7W
Mr. Ernie Roberts

asked the Lord Privy Seal if the Government will seek assurances from the Indonesian Government that Hawk ground attack planes will in no circumstances be used in East Timor; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Lord Privy Seal if Her Mejesty's Government will seek assurances from the Indonesian Government that Hawk planes will, under no circumstances, be used in East Timor.

Mr. Ridley

No. All relevant factors are taken into account in reaching decisions on defence sales, but it is not practical to seek assurances about the use to which military equipment may be put.

Mr. Ernie Roberts

asked the Lord Privy Seal what information he has about a new offensive by Indonesia against East Timor; and if he will take steps in the United Nations to call upon Indonesia to halt this offensive.

Mr. Ridley

We have no information of any major stepping up of military activity in East Timor.
