§ Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the criteria upon which the policy of refusal to accept prisoners serving sentences of imprisonment for offences committed in Great Britain for transfer to jails in Northern Ireland, when those prisoners are convicted of terrorist-type offences, is applied; and how terrorist-type offences are defined.
§ Mr. Alison[pursuant to his reply, 15 June 1981]: There are no precisely defined criteria, and no specific definition of terrorist-type offences is applied. The general position is that persons with Northern Ireland associations who commit offences in Great Britain as members, or in support, of organisations engaged in terrorism should not expect to be returned to Northern Ireland to serve their sentences.
