asked the Minister for the Civil Service to what extent Civil Service pensions are index-linked after retirement.

Under section 59 of the Social Security Pensions Act 1975, as amended, all official pensions, including those of former civil servants, are increased at the same time and by the same percentage as the additional components of long-term social security benefits. The general effect is to restore the real value of the pension to its level at the time of the previous increase, or the date the pension began, whichever is the later.
