HC Deb 17 June 1981 vol 6 c380W
Mr. Hicks

asked the Attorney-General if he will state the latest position in respect of his decision to transfer the High Court and Crown court from Bodmin to Truro; whether the necessary land has been obtained and what is the cost; if he will state details of all the work so far undertaken and the cost involved; whether his proposed timetable is being met; and what is the date for the transfer of these courts.

The Solicitor-General

It is still the intention to transfer the High Court and Crown court from Bodmin to Truro. The purchase of the land is under negotiation and the price has not yet been agreed. No construction work has yet been carried out. The timetable will depend upon the completion of the site negotiations but the earliest expected date for the transfer of the courts is 1986.

Mr. Hicks

asked the Attorney-General if he will state the latest estimates capital cost of transferring the High Court and Crown court from Bodmin to Truro; and what is the estimated annual expenditure to operate these courts in Truro.

The Solicitor-General

The estimated capital cost is approximately £3 million at current prices. It is not yet possible to estimate the annual operating costs after the transfer.
