HC Deb 17 June 1981 vol 6 c374W
35. Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the number of jobs likely to be created in Scotland on work associated with the proposed gas-gathering pipeline.

Mr. Younger

It is not possible at this stage in the development of this complex scheme, with its ramifications both offshore and onshore, to estimate the number of jobs which could arise or be safeguarded. However, considerable employment will be involved in the provision of equipment and during construction; longer term there will be some permanent jobs in manning the new facilities. Additional jobs could also arise in the petrochemical industry but these will depend on arrangements still to be negotiated on the disposal of the gas liquids.
