HL Deb 16 June 1981 vol 421 c624WA
Baroness Seear

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What has been the response to date to the Business Start-Up Scheme.

Lord Cockfield

There has been a general welcome for the business start-up concern, which provides a very generous new tax incentive for the outside investor who takes up new equity capital in new business start-ups. The Government have received many inquiries, and suggestions for extending the coverage of the scheme. After careful consideration, the Government have tabled a number of amendments to the Finance Bill in response to these representations, to ensure that the benefits of the scheme extend over as wide an area as possible, consistent with the basic objectives of the scheme and the view of priorities which it reflects.
