HC Deb 16 June 1981 vol 6 c357W
Mr. Crouch

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to provide adequate accommodation for gipsies within the London boroughs and so prevent their enforced migration into Kent and other surrounding counties.

Mr. Monro

The duty to provide accommodation for gipsies in the United Kingdom is placed on local authaorities, including London boroughs, under the Caravan Sites Act, 1968.

I have already asked the London Boroughs Association and the standing conference on London and South-East regional planning to discuss a gipsy site programme for London and its implications for Kent and the other Home Counties.
