HC Deb 16 June 1981 vol 6 cc333-4W
15. Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what provision is made in maintained schools for providing different education to those of different ethnic backgrounds.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

The curriculum in maintained schools is not differentiated in this way. Special help in the use of English is provided for those pupils who need it.

29. Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received from Members of the committee of inquiry into the education of children from ethnic minority groups subsequent to the resignation of Mr. Anthony Rampton.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

I met six members of the committee on 20 May at their request and we discussed the work of the committee. I subsequently received letters of resignation from one of these members and from two others.

31. Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he is taking to implement the interim recommendations of the committee of inquiry into the education of ethnic minorities.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

I intend to consult widely on the implications for the education service of the recommendations in the committee's first report.
