HC Deb 16 June 1981 vol 6 c307W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, following the investigation of the fatal accident in 1980 at Devonport, arising from design defects in a bosun's chair, whether any prohibition notice or improvement notice was voluntarily accepted by the port admiral; and if not, what other action was taken by health and safety inspectors.

Mr. Waddington

No prohibition or improvement notice was served on the port admiral or Ministry of Defence. Health and Safety inspectors satisfied themselves that, following internal inquiry and review, fresh instructions as to the use of bosun's chairs were put into effect which should ensure their safe operation.
