§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he has been able to take to expedite the procedures for clearing applications for work permits for duly qualified appointees in higher educational and research institutions; and what further improvements he hopes to be able to make in this respect.
§ Mr. WaddingtonDiscussions have been held at ministerial and official level with representatives of higher education and research organisations. As a result, and with a view to expediting the consideration of cases, modifications in the procedure for dealing with work permit applications in this special field have been agreed. Arrangements hae also been made for improved liaison258W between those institutions and the overseas labour section. We shall consider whether further improvements are desirable when these revised administrative arrangements arrangements have been given a reasonable trial.
