§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Prime Minister if she will set out the responsibilities of the Secretary of State for Wales in relation to the Welsh language and its use.
§ The Prime MinisterMy right hon. Friend has responsibility to further the Government's policy for encouraging support of the Welsh language. As the hon. Member will know, my right hon. Friend stressed the Government's commitment to the Welsh language and called for unity in building support for the language in a speech at Llanrwst in April 1980. Financial support has more than trebled under this Government; £2.3 million is available for this purpose in 1981–82.
