HC Deb 15 June 1981 vol 6 cc288-9W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total amount paid out in redundancy payments and associated benefits to former employees of non-departmental public bodies whose members he has appointed; and what was the average payment per employee and the range of such payments.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Lump-sum redundancy payments to former employees of non-departmental public bodies whose members my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has appointed since May 1979 total about £673,000. These payments ranged between £56,000 and £330, the average per employee being £11,000. In addition, about £140,000 will be paid in 1981 as early redundancy pensions. Redundancy payments made by the nationalised transport industries are not included in these figures.
