HC Deb 15 June 1981 vol 6 cc279-80W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Lord Privy Seal what was the total amount paid out in redundancy payments and associated benefits to former employees of non-departmental public bodies whose members he has appointed; and what was the average payment per employee and the range of such payments.

Mr. Hurd

The total amount paid out in statutory redundancy payments and compensation payments since May 1979 by the non-departmental public bodies sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, including the Overseas Development Administration, has been £1,070,266. The average payment per employee is £6,905 and the payments range from £822 to £31,770. In addition, a number of former employees are receiving pension benefits at an earlier date than normal retirement age, but the exact cost of this could not be calculated except at excessive expense.
