HC Deb 15 June 1981 vol 6 c271W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government's policy of a 6 per cent. cash award on salaries and wages to public servants is also to apply to the chairman of the nationalised boards, including the chairman of British Railways; and whether this level is also intended to be applicable to the chairman of British Leyland (BL) Limited.

The Prime Minister

The salaries of the chairman of nationalised industry boards, including the chairman of the British Railways Board, will be determined under the arrangements set out in the reply I gave on 7 April to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Perth and East Perthshire (Mr. Walker). The arrangements for determining the salary of the chairman of the board of B1 Ltd are being considered following the transfer of responsibility for BL from the NEB to the Secretary of State for Industry.
