§ Mr. Robert Atkinsasked the Secretary of State for Trade how many jobs in the United Kingdom his Department estimates arise from exports; and whether his Department has produced any estimates of the number of jobs that arise from exports of British products to the other member States of the European Community.
§ Mr. ParkinsonIt is not possible to make worthwhile estimates on the basis of available information. Total exports of goods and services and exports of goods and services to the EC—gross of their import content—are equivalent, respectively, to about one-third and one-seventh of GDP. The proportions for goods only are about one-quarter and one-ninth. For total goods and services exported, the import content amounted to about 30 per cent in 1974.
