HC Deb 11 June 1981 vol 6 cc193-4W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whom he intends to appoint as chairman of the National Advisory Council on Employment of Disabled People.

Mr. Prior

I have appointed Sara Morrison to be chairman of the council. Mrs. Morrison has an excellent knowledge of industry and commerce as a director of the General Electric Company and of the Abbey National Building Society. She is also chairman of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, which is co-ordinating the contribution of voluntary bodies to the International Year of Disabled People. Her appointment is therefore, particularly appropriate in this, the international year. Both the Government and the Manpower Services Commission attach great importance to promoting the employment of disabled people and I am confident that under her chairmanship the valuable advice of the council will continue to help us provide the most effective form of assistance to disabled people.
