§ Mr. Kaufmanasked the Attorney-General why, in the light of the letter dated 23 April sent to the hon. Member for Newham, North-West (Mr. Lewis) by the Minister of State, Home Department, Official Report, 8 June, c. 12, in which it is stated that the husband of Mrs Nasira Begum was already married and not a bachelor at the time of his marriage to Mrs. Begum, no prosecution for bigamy has been brought against Mrs Begum's husband.
§ The Attorney-GeneralThe validity of Mrs. Begum's marriage is the subject of an appeal before a tribunal. A provisional hearing date has been fixed for 15 June 1981. I would not wish to make any comment on this matter until the tribunal has given its findings.
