HC Deb 10 June 1981 vol 6 c162W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the future of Steamer Point, Friars Cliff, Dorset.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Ministry of Defence has asked the Property Services Agency to dispose of this site and the latter has objected to the determination made by the local planning authority about the type of development of the site which might be acceptable to it. As is usual in cases where such objections are raised by disposing Departments, the agency has asked my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State to give an opinion in accordance with the provisions of circular 49/63 as to the type of development for which he would or would not have been prepared to give planning permission on appeal. Such an opinion does not constitute the granting of specific planning permission and reserves the powers of both the local planning authority and the Secretary of State in the event of future applications or appeals. The Secretary of State will be in a position to give his opinion after he has received and considered the written representations of the Christchurch borough council.
