§ Mr. HeseltineThe functions of the Greater London Council remain substantially those which were allocated to it by the London Government Act 1963, as modified by the National Health Service Reorganisation Act 1973 and the Water Act 1973. The main functions allocated to the council are: structure planning, derelict land, transport planning, highways (Principal Roads), traffic regulation, road safety, parking, education (Inner London), building regulations (Inner London), fire service, refuse disposal and smallholdings.
162WIn addition it exercises the following functions concurrently with the boroughs: housing , museums and the arts, recreational facilites, encouragement of tourism and litter control.
