HC Deb 09 June 1981 vol 6 c113W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total amount of money in (a) revenue and (b) capital allocated to the Salvation Army in the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

The Salvation Army Housing Association received from the Department in 1980–81 capital grants of £5,242,115 and a hostel deficit grant of £4,902. The Salvation Army itself does not receive any capital or revenue grants from the Department.

Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the way in which the Salvation Army runs its hostels for homeless men.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

The Housing Corporation has the statutory responsibility for supervision and control of the registered housing associations which run some of the Salvation Army's hostels. I understand that the corporation has no reason to believe that the affairs of the Salvation Army housing associations are not competently managed.
