Mr. Hordenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost of reducing the retirement age for men to 60 years.
§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a calculation of the cost of reducing the retirement age to (a) 64, (b) 63, (c) 62, (d) 61, and (e) 60 years, respectively, if all the vacancies left by those retiring earlier were filled by unemployed people.
§ Mr. RossiI refer my hon. Friend and the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend the Member for Daventry (Mr. Prentice) gave to my hon. Friend, the Member for Eastleigh (Sir D. Price) on 22 July 1980—[Vol 989, c. 209–10.] New revised estimates are in the course of preparation and ought to be ready during July and I shall write to my hon. Friend and the hon. Member then.
With regard to the hon. Member's question, I regret that estimates are not available on the assumption requested and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
