HC Deb 09 June 1981 vol 6 cc116-7W
Mr. Foster

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish the amounts paid by the Manpower Services Commission to colleges of further education with respect to industrial and commercial training for each year since 1974.

Mr. Macfarlane

In the financial years 1979–80 arid 1980–81 payments by the Manpower Services Commission to local education authorities in England for the provision of courses under the training opportunities scheme amounted to about £29 million and £26 million respectively. Comparable figures are not available for earlier years.

Mr. Foster

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish the amount paid to colleges of further education by employers who seek industrial training for their employees.

Mr. Macfarlane

In the financial year 1979–80, the latest year for which returns of expenditure and income have been received from local authorities, the total income of authorities in England from courses approved by industrial training boards was about £16½ million at outturn prices. The returns do not identify payments to authorities by employers directly.
