HC Deb 09 June 1981 vol 6 c86W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will undertake an urgent review of the penalties for infringement of the Food and Drugs Act 1955, with a view to increasing the maximum fine of £100 for selling, for human consumption, meat which is unfit for that purpose.

Mr. Wiggin

This penalty level does not conform with the scale of summary fines established following the Criminal Law Act 1977 and is one of a large number which require revision. This will be done as soon as a legislative opportunity arises.
