HC Deb 09 June 1981 vol 6 cc108-9W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in the light of the importance of the Commercial Bank of Wales to the Welsh economy, he will discuss the status of the bank under the Banking Act 1979 with the Bank of England.

Mr. Lawson

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to him on 2 June 1981—[Vol. 5, c.310]. In view of the position outlined in that reply, it would not be approporiate for my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer to discuss the status of the Commercial Bank of Wales with the Bank of England while the appeal proceedings are outstanding.
