HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c3W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister, in view of the increase in unemployment, if she will now reconsider her decision not to halt the practice of making appointments to public boards and authorities of Members of the House of Lords and instead appoint persons who have no other paid employment and no daily tax-free attendance allowance.

The Prime Minister

I do not think that it would be right to exclude Members of the House of Lords from these appointments.
