HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c31W
Mr. Trippier

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many doctors are engaged full or part-time in post mortem examinations.

Sir George Young

Post mortem examinations normally form part of the work of histopathologists. The number of histopathologists employed in the NHS in England and Wales at 30 September 1980 was 655—whole-time equivalent.

Mr. Trippier

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average cost to the National Health Service of a post-mortem examination.

Sir George Young

I regret that this information is not centrally available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
