HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c56W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what amount of public support has been given to the port of Dundee in each year since 1975;

(2) what has been the level of cargo passing through the port of Dundee in each of the past four years.

Mr. Fowler

Since 1975, the only public financial support provided to the Dundee port authority has been a grant of £180,000 from the European development fund. This was approved in January 1980.

Foreign, coastwise and off-shore traffic through the port of Dundee in 1980 amounted to 1,023,000 tonnes. Figures for 1979 and earlier years have been published by the National Ports Council in volume 1 of its "Annual Digest of Port Statistics", copies of which are available in the Library of the House. Traffic figures for Dundee for 1979 have, however, been revised since publication by the NPC to 835,000 tonnes.
