HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c18W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the Government's policy regarding the European Economic Community's fifth directive on company structure, particularly in relation to the Vredeling proposals on complex undertakings.

Mr. Waddington

In so far as both draft directives seek to impose rigid systems for employee involvement, they are contrary to our policy that progress would most satisfactorily be achieved by companies themselves taking the initiative to develop their own arrangements appropriate to their particular circumstances and needs.
