§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps his Department is taking to monitor the incidence of acid rain in England and Wales.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe Department is funding the measurement of acid rain at three sites—two in England and one in Scotland. These sites form part of a wider European monitoring network organised by the Economic Commission for Europe. In addition we are aware of the results from other bodies, such as the Natural Environment Research Council, the Central Electricity Generating Board and the Meteorological Office, which also monitor acid rainfall.
