§ 34. Mr. Kenneth Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on progress in reducing staff in his Department.
§ Mr. FowlerNumbers in my Department have been reduced by 1,056, or 7.6 per cent., since 1 April 1979. I am planning to reduce them by 23 per cent. in all by 1 April 1984. Additionally, there is the transfer of work from the RCU sub-units, involving up to 1,400 staff. This means that the payroll will be reduced by about one-third.
