§ Mr. Ray Powellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the powers of the district auditor in relation to the English regional water authorities.
§ Mr. Giles ShawParagraph 39 of schedule 3 to the Water Act 1973 provides that water authorities shall be audited in accordance with part VIII of the Local Government Act 1972 by a district auditor or an approved auditor. A district and approved auditor's powers in relation to a water authority are the same as they are in relation to a local authority under sections 154 to 167 of the 1972 Act.
