asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total of young unemployed at the most recent date.

On 9 July 1981, 11,989 young people under 18 years of age, including 10,051 school leavers, were registered as unemployed.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the latest unemployment figures for the Province.

On 9 July 1981, 108,089 people were registered as unemployed in Northern Ireland. The announcement made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in the House on 27 July 1981 of further steps to counter unemployment in Great Britain will be reflected in an extension of the programme operating in Northern Ireland. I will announce full details as soon as possible.
