HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 c551W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many speech therapists are employed by education authorities in England and Wales; in which types of schools they work; and how many are concerned mainly with deaf or hard-of-hearing children.

Dr. Boyson

None. Since 1974 speech therapists have been employed by area health authorities and the educational, hospital and community aspects of the service have become progressively more integrated. However, I understand that, in general, speech therapists dealing with children spend a substantial proportion of their time on educational matters.
