HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 cc558-9W
Mr. Needham

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many people aged over 63 years are employed by the Civil Service; and if she will ensure that greater use is made of the job release scheme to improve opportunities for young people.

Mr. Hayhoe

As at 1 January 1981, approximately 9,600 non-industrial civil servants were aged 63 and over; figures for industrial civil servants are not held centrally. I am anxious that the Civil Service should make full use of the extension of the release scheme to provide job opportunities for the unemployed.
