HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 c544W
Mr. Alan Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he is satisfied with security arrangements giving access to the energy generators at Devonport dockyard; and what steps he is taking to improve these.

Mr. Blaker

Access to the area and to the building in which the emergency generators at Devonport dockyard are housed is strictly controlled. As part of the investigation into the contamination of the fuel in one of the generators, these arrangements are being examined.

Mr. Alan Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the service record of the emergency generators at Devonport dockyard; and whether all of them are operational at this time.

Mr. Blaker

The emergency generators at Devonport dockyard are standby generators which receive regular maintenance to ensure that they are serviceable. All the generators are fully serviceable, except for one which is still being installed.
