§ Mr. Parkasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many under-25-year-olds in the Coventry travel-to-work area (a) are currently unemployed and (b) have taken part in the youth opportunities programme and other special measures.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonAt 9 April, the latest date for which an analysis by age is available, the number of people under 25 years of age registered as unemployed in the Coventry travel-to-work area was 11,289.
One thousand one hundred and forty young people entered the youth opportunities programme scheme in the Coventry local authority district between 1 April and the end of June 1981. In addition, there were 178 filled places at the end of June 1981 on the community enterprise 699W programme scheme in the area covered by the Coventry special programmes division area office. At the middle of June there were 144 filled places at the Coventry-Nuneaton community industry unit. Detailed information about the number of special schemes is not available by travel-to-work areas.
I am not able to say how many under 25-year-olds are benefiting from the temporary short-time compensation scheme.
The total number of current recipients of job release allowance in the Coventry travel-to-work area is 432. It is not possible to say how many of these were replaced by those under 25 in the Coventry area. However, surveys suggest that nationally 40 per cent. of replacements are under 25.
