HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 cc680-1W
Mr. Michael Spicer

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action will be taken once the present industrial dispute is over to ensure that claimants receive the proper entitlements to short-term benefits and earnings-related supplements.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

As soon as practicable after the dispute ends, the entitlement of those who are still receiving benefit will be recalculated and any arrears paid. It will not, however, be practicable, because of the numbers involved, for local offices to identify and write individually to recipients of short-term benefits who have by then returned to work. It will, therefore, be necessary for anyone in this position who thinks he has not received his full entitlement to write to the local office concerned and ask for his case to be reviewed. Publicity will be given to these arrangements at the appropriate time.
