§ Dr. BoysonRecurrent and capital grants to universities totalled £1,040 million in the financial year 1980–81. Information on payment of fees and maintenance by local authorities in that year is not yet available. As indicated in Cnmd. 8175, the detailed implications of the Government's expenditure plans for the university and non-university sectors are under discussion with the University Grants Committee and local authority associations and the exact apportionment of the total resources available in 1983–84 has yet to be settled.
