§ Mr. BrittanEstimates of the Exchequer cost of a 100,000 change in the level of unemployment in the private sector were published in the February edition of the economic progress report. As explained in that article, it would be totally misleading to gross up these estimates to give a figure for the total cost of the current level of unemployment.
