HC Deb 30 July 1981 vol 9 c514W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will ascertain from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive the number of sheltered dwellings in each region, the number under construction in each region and the number required to meet the present need in each region; and what plans the Northern Ireland Housing Executive has to meet the need in each region by 1986.

Mr. David Mitchell

The chairman of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive informs me that 74 units of sheltered accommodation are under construction in the Belfast region. Further schemes will be included in the planned 5-year programme. The executive has no plans to provide sheltered accommodation in the other five regions.

The number of sheltered dwellings and the waiting list for each region are as follows:

Belfast 289 43
South East 58 22
South 44 9
North East 4
North West 6 4
West
* Elderly persons in need of warden supervised accommodation.

The hon. Gentleman will be aware that housing associations are also active in this field.
