HC Deb 30 July 1981 vol 9 cc451-2W
Mr. Bright

asked the Secretary of State for Trade, whether he has received any representations on the level of Japanese exports of cars and vans to the United Kingdom since the meeting between the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Parkinson

I have discussed this matter with representatives of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders who were reasonably satisfied with the outcome of their talks with the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association. The levels of these imports from Japan are expected to fall significantly; my Department will continue to monitor progress closely.
