HC Deb 30 July 1981 vol 9 c456W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of (a) the total number of men over 60 years of age and (b) the total number of women over 60 years of age, who are currently in employment in Wales; how many of these are employees and how many self employed.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The latest available information on employees by age is based on the Welsh Housing and Dwelling Survey and relates to April 1979. The estimated number of men aged 60 and over in employment at that time was 51,600, the total being made up of 39,700 employees and 11,800 self-employed. The corresponding figures for women were 19,500, 16,200 and 3,300.
