§ Mr. John MacKayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he intends to publish this year the annual reports on education and social work in Scotland.
§ Mr. YoungerI have decided to discontinue the publication of the annual reports on education and social work as a contribution to economies in staffing and administrative costs. Much of the information in those reports will still be available in the White Paper on public expenditure, in statistical bulletins and in other departmental publications. The Scottish Education Department issues a regular list of current departmental circulars and memoranda, covering both education and social work, which will in future also include details of other departmental publications; a copy will be placed in the Library. I shall continue to make an annual report to Parliament on the working of community service orders, as required by section 11 of the Community Service by Offenders (Scotland) Act 1978.
