Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his estimate of (a) the total number of registered disabled persons who are currently in employment and (b) the number of such persons who are registered unemployed.

The number of registered disabled persons who are currently in employment is unknown. The register of disabled people, at 21 April 1981, the latest date available, totalled 460,178. At 11 June 1981 there were 72,742 registered disabled people unemployed. The remaining 387,436 registered disabled people included not only those who are in employment, but also others who are sick or no longer in the employment field.

Mr. Foster

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give, for the latest available date, the numerical and percentage change in the numbers of (a) registered, (b) unregistered and (c) total disabled people who have been unemployed since May 1979.
