§ Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, in the light of his statement on 13 March that it was hoped that universities would admit, as they had done this year, as many students as they could consistent with their academic judgment, he will give an assurance that universities will not suffer financial penalties if they exceed the student numbers recommended by the University Grants Committee.
§ Dr. BoysonBy convention, the allocation of recurrent grant to individual universities by the University Grants Committee is not subject to ministerial intervention.
